Are black soldier fly larvae better than mealworms?

Yes, Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) are packed with more calcium than mealworms, which helps your chickens lay eggs with stronger shells. They also contain lauric acid, a natural fatty acid that supports a healthy immune system.BSFL have a better protein-to-fat balance than mealworms, making them easier to digest. And the best part? They’re grown by upcycling food waste, so they’re not only great for your chickens, but also for the planet 🌍

How are live insects transported?

Currently we ship across Baltics via parcel machines or direct courier delivery. Each order is packed in zip lock bags with micro airholes, then placed in a sturdy cardboard box to keep them secure and breathable during transport.

How are live black soldier fly larvae packaged?

We use minigrip bags, which have small air holes so that the larvae have enough oxygen to breathe, but at the same time they cannot escape from the package.

How to store live black soldier fly larvae?

Store the larvae in a dry, open container without holes (bucket, bowl, or plastic box).

Do not cover the container with a lid, otherwise the bucket will become damp and the larvae will be able to escape. The maggots also need oxygen.

Ideal temperature:
10–15 °C slows metabolism and extends lifespan.
Room temperature (20–25 °C) is also suitable, but then the larvae will start to pupate, or turn into flies, more quickly.
